And We're Back...

Hi everyone! It's been a while, but we're back with some great new resources to help us through the second term. In literacy, we continue to learn about word classes. Check out these Schoolhouse Rock songs about adjectives and verbs! For more work on story-writing, BBC's Story Plant lets you "grow" your own story.

For numeracy, here is a game on finding coordinates. See if you can click the right squares and uncover the hidden ship. We've also been learning about compass directions, angles and turns. Try out these games to test your skills (To use these two links, make sure to first click on the blue box that says "Instant Evaluation".):
Think you know which materials are waterproof, bendy or transparent? Test yourself with this BBC science activity about characteristics of materials.

Finally, if you haven't already visited this fantastic history website, click this link to learn all about the Celts as we continue to learn about the Roman invasion.

More to Explore...

Hey there, Year Three :)

Since we've been learning about nouns, here's a Schoolhouse Rock video clip to make sure you never forget what a noun is. To become a real expert, try this link to help you remember the difference between common nouns and proper nouns.

Don't forget we have a times tables competition coming up this term! Make sure you're ready by memorising and revising your multiplication facts.

Also, BBC's Dance Mat Typing game is a great way to improve your typing skills. Give it a go!

Money, Molars and Mummies!

It's already October and Year Three is having a fabulous time making canopic jars, learning about their teeth and playing shop using coins. Looking for more to explore? Well, you've come to the right place!

As for literacy, we are learning about the features of instructions, including how they are written and how to organise them properly. Test yourself on imperatives with this quiz from BBC Skillswise. (Choose Level A.)

Practise your money smarts by visiting the Sweet Shop on Crickweb or the Igloo Shop on the BBC.

See how well you know teeth by building a mouth on this great site from the University of Manchester.

Finally, think you know everything about mummification? If you think you've got what it takes to make your own mummy, have a go!

Get Back Into Shape

We're already in our second week of school and it's about time to get our brains back in shape and ready to learn.

Over the next few weeks we will be exploring these key topics:
  • Literacy: story settings
  • Numeracy: place value and number patterns
  • History: Ancient Egypt
  • Science: healthy eating
One great place to start is the BBC Bitesize website. There you'll find spelling/grammar activities, number games, science resources and much more.

In addition, the British Council has a fun game for students to test their knowledge of healthy foods, as does the Food Standards Agency. Lastly, for an exciting Egyptian tomb adventure, click here.

Until next time, enjoy! :)
